Who: Radio Times (print & online)

What: Competition

Why: As part of commemorating the anniversary of the First World War and as PR for specialist family history experts ProGenealogists (Ancestry.co.uk)

How:  Readers were invited to share their family stories relating to the war for a chance to win 30 hours of professional research into their family history plus software for them to continue at home

The subject matter required great sensitivity, and it was important to be clear to readers that the winning entry would be a story that would benefit from further research into them, rather than those which were fully documented already – however, we were thrilled to receive an incredible number of extraordinary stories that were included in a feature of shortlisted entries in the magazine on their own merit.
